In “Settings” on the main menu bar, there are some basic settings for the "Müller foto svet" software where you can make changes.
If you are not an experienced computer user and everything is working the way it should, it is a good idea to leave the settings as they are. Some options are only available if specific products are available.
If one of the options described here is not listed in your software, the corresponding photo product is therefore not available.
The left side of the option window is subdivided into various sections.
Here you will find the settings for the behaviour on startup.
This displays the "tip of the day”. You have the option to turn this on or off.
The "use system file dialogs" option affects only "Mac OS" operating systems.
The "Mac OS" operating systems have their own file dialogs, such as navigating in file systems or to select colours that may more closely match the preferences of the Mac user.
When the “Start the CEWE PHOTOBOOK Assistant automatically” option is selected, you will get options for “Photo Show” or “Classic Image Selection”. Photo Show lets you view and edit your images and Classic Image Selection lets you select images using the normal browser window.
You can select which cloud services you wish to use for your stored online photo collections.
User interface gives you the choice of 5 different shades of grey where you can set the background of your job. You can also set the position of the storyboard in this section.
Turn on or off the "Spell check while writing text" option. You can also use a different dictionary for the spelling checker, for example, an already existing or for a different language. Many word processing programs (eg Microsoft Word or Open Office) already install a dictionary.
And if your unfamiliar terms have been added to this dictionary, then it is well maintained and you can use it in the "Müller foto svet" software. Dictionary files are identified by the file extension ". Dic".
Here you can turn the display of the auxiliary grid on and off.
To adjust the spacing of the grid lines and the colour and thickness.
You can adjust the sensitivity by using the slider.
If this option is turned on, a tooltip with position and size information of the frame appears when you move or resize a layout frame.
This is to set the behaviour of an inserted picture if it is too close to the margin.
Usually if a photo is too near to the edge, it may cause issues in production so we advise to leave enough space.
This is to set the behaviour of a text field when it is too close to the edge.
This is to set the behaviour of cliparts.
This is to set the behaviour of maps.
Normally, the layout selection jumps when switching to another page to, for example, another photo number, if more or less photos / photo placeholders are on the new page.
Ticking this box will apply the last layout.
If this checkbox is active, then you will be warned when deleting a QR code that the corresponding video is not uploaded.
Insert hereby determines whether a double-click on the thumbnail of a photo in the preview display the Photo Show opens (to edit the picture), or not. The Photo Show can always be started from the context menu (right mouse click on the thumbnail).
Here you can set the option whether the images are displayed with their file name in the selection area. By default, the display of file names is turned off.
Select the image folder you would like the software to load as default which the program will use to store its temporary files, photo books etc. This is where you set the working directory in which the program caches the data it needs for the current project.
The default setting here is your "My Pictures" folder (the path name may look slightly different). Click the "Search" button to open a folder browser where you can select another folder.
Here you can set the "red eye" function which will fix a photo that was taken with a flash. Options for automatic "red eye correction" include:-
Whether a photo was taken with a flash, the program recognises the EXIF data, which is data that is stored in the image file.
You can turn on or turn off the "Automatic Image Optimisation (AIO)". Especially for images that have been edited by an image editing program (also emerges from the EXIF data of the photo), you can set whether to optimise or not for each picture. The Automatic Image Optimisation can be set so it applies to all images or set so none of the images are optimised.
The options as shown in the Photo Settings are:-
There is also an option of dealing with photos already inserted in the product that were not processed. This only works once you are currently working on a project and can go to the “Settings” and change it mid-way through (there must be images in the project).
This is where you set the layout frame behaviour for various photo products for cases where the layout frame aspect and the inserted photo aspect do not match.
You can set the behaviour for multiple products separately.
centres the image in the layout frame without changing the aspect ratio of the frame (see picture below middle). Protruding parts of the photo are no longer visible. You can move the photo inside the frame layout to bring important image content into the viewable area. (Or to remove unwanted content out of the visible area).
modifies the layout frame to match the image aspect (see figure bottom right). The longer side of the image is scaled to fit the frame optimally.
This can have a major impact on the layout, e.g. if you insert a portrait image into a landscape layout frame, however, the inserted image is always shown in full, even if you scale the frame.
Examples:
|
Empty layout frame
|
Maintain frame size
The original photo is cropped by the frame layout |
Change layout frame
The layout framework assumes the aspect ratio of the original image |
The "Faces should not be cut if possible" function uses an automatic face recognition. If this function detects a face or multiple faces in the photo, it is trying to move the photo inside the layout frame so that a face is as completely visible as possible.
This option will "maintain frame size and cut out the centre of the photo" only when applied.
Maps available for georeferenced photos includes the photo geodata and automatically offers a proper spatial map which you can insert.
In 3D photos in JPS format (JPEG Stereo) there is no standard for which photo is responsible for which eye.
Therefore, there is a dialog window where you can use appropriate 3D glasses to check the depth perception and which image is best.
This is where you can enable and disable the use of frames around images and set the frame thickness and colour.
Enable this option to display your images with a cast shadow. Set the shadow gap to define how far the shadow should just out beyond the image. The intensity refers to the opacity of the shadow. This is where you set whether it should be lighter or darker. You can use the mouse to shift the sun symbol and set the shadow direction.
The blur makes the shadows softer (at 0 px, the shadow has a hard edge). The size determines the size of the shadow. At 25 px, the shadow is the same size as the shadow-casting photo.
The effect of the shadow settings is shown in a preview.

This is a global setting for all photos that are newly inserted and does not affect previously been inserted photos! |
Select the directory in which the program should store its temporary files. Here you define the so-called working directory in which the program stores its data required for the project.
A click on the "Search" button opens a directory browser where you can choose a different directory.
By setting the "Image Cache Size" you can influence the performance of your program. The cache is the amount of RAM that a program is reserved from the memory of the computer.
The larger the cache, the faster the program will be because it can hold more data (images) in memory and they do not have to upload them from the slower hard disk. But if the memory is less, then the other currently running programs available will work slower.
Many cameras and image editing programs store from a small preview (thumbnail) in the EXIF data of digital photos. With this option the photo software uses the preview data from the EXIF data of the photo and calculated not own preview.
This makes the display of the images is slightly faster, but depending on the quality of the EXIF thumbnail display may be worse.
Whilst editing a product there may be an unnecessary amount of hard disk space that is occupied. You have the option here to free up disk space when loading a product.
The program's internet access is configured here.
If you are ordering by CD, you can ignore this section.
Select "Do not Use Proxy" if you need a proxy for this program. If your computer has a reliable internet connection, the “Use system proxy” setting is perfectly sufficient. This uses your computer’s existing settings for the internet connection.
Use the "Use your own proxy" setting if you work on a large network and use different proxies or if you have a firewall.
Ask your system administrator for the correct settings.
A number of connection attempts are started with the "Start" button. If there are any problems, you can see the results in "Details". These details can be saved for support enquiries.

Here you can set if you want to generate debug outputs for support and where it is stored on your computer. Using this debug output, we can see where and when within each program module there was an error.
